My primary profession, since the mid-1970s, has been as a primary health
care project manager and PHC management consultant. That work has taken
me to twenty countries in Africa (and Haiti) to design, implement and evaluate
projects and decentralized health care systems.
My secondary profession, since the mid-1990s, when I "discovered" the
Internet, has been as Webmaster for a growing cluster of websites at www.bemorecreative.com.
This includes CreativeQuotations.com, which provides online access to 30,000
quotes to encourage creative thinking.
One of my favorite quotes is from Szent-Gyorgyi, the biochemist who
first isolated Vitamin C. He said, "Discovery consists of looking at the
same thing as everyone else and thinking something different."
Perhaps we could apply this technique to reflect on the role of CCIH.
Try looking at the quotations below, but thinking about CCIH. For example,
replace the word or phrase in bolded text with "CCIH."
A book is like a piece of rope; it takes on meaning only in
connection with the things it holds together. (Norman Cousins)
Creating a new theory . . . is rather like climbing a mountain,
gaining new and wider views, discovering unexpected connections between
our starting point and its rich environment. (A. Einstein)
In nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection
with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it.
(Goethe)
One must always maintain one's connection to the past and yet ceaselessly
pull away from it. (Gaston Bachelard)
You can't solve many of today's problems by straight linear thinking.
It takes leaps of faith to sense the connections that are not necessarily
obvious. (Martina Horner)
Opportunities for CCIH connections are all around us. Get connected,
and let CCIH know how they can help you get connected to others.
