CCIH in Brief
by J. Gordon Williams

One of the highlights of this year was CCIH=s
participation in the annual conference of the National Council for International
Health, 25-27 June, in Arlington, VA. This conference theme was AMobilizing
Communities and Constituencies for Global Health.@
CCIH sponsored several events during NCIH, including a
reception on the eve of the NCIH conference, morning prayers and devotions,
a brown-bag luncheon on AFaith,
Development and Global Health,@
an exhibit booth, and a panel session of five presentations entitled AChristian
Mobilization for Global Health@
(see list below). The first two presentations are summarized in this issue
of The CCIH Forum:
Mobilizing Religious Communities for Global Health by
Charles Ausherman, Institute for Development Training
The Role of Church Groups in Managing Health Districts
by Franklin Baer, Independent Consultant for International Health
Roles of Mission Hospitals in International Health
by Daniel Fountain, MAP International
Donor Agency and Church Collaboration in International
Health Programs: Policies and Practices by Raymond Martin, World Bank
Churches Advocating for the Poor through Global Institutions
by Marie Dennis, Maryknoll Missions.
The role of communities of faith in international health
is rich with many undocumented experiences. Taking time to write and present
your perspectives is an important witness to the wider community of international
health. The CCIH Forum was created to disseminate those experiences
on a wide scale -- in print and on the Internet.
CCIH salutes those who have made the effort to write about
international health from a Christian perspective, and encourages its readers
to write and submit their own articles. E-mail your ideas to ccihforum@ccih.org,
