The current mission statement of CCIH reads as follows:
The mission of Christian Connections for International Health
is to promote international health and wholeness from a Christian perspective.
CCIH provides field-oriented information resources and a forum for discussion,
networking, and fellowship to the spectrum of Christian organizations and
individuals working in international health.
"What is international health from a Christian perspective?"
First, we believe that it is part of the "abundant life"
that Jesus talked about in John 10:10. (KJV) It is more than the absence
of disease. It is wholeness. It is physical, mental, spiritual and social
well-being.
Second, we believe that it involves a dimension of equity
across global lines. Even if Christians debate exactly what this means,
there should be consensus that followers of Jesus cannot be content with
economic, social, and health systems that leave out any of God's children.
With respect to health services systems, they may not be able to provide
coverage of everything, but they must provide some coverage to all. See
the news announcement on page 21about the establishment of the International
Society for Equity in Health.
Third, we believe that a Christian approach to health
and health care services is not just something "delivered" by doctors,
hospitals and drugs, but it flows out of communities and institutions of
people caring for and loving each other.
CCIH, in brief, is about connecting people and organizations
who share this Christian approach to international health so that we all
can better emulate Jesus, the master healer.
