AMFA stands Affordable Medicines For All. Established in 1995, it exists to ensure that Christian health care organizations have access to a comprehensive and consistent formulary of essential medicines (including generic medicines), with timely and efficient distribution, at competitive prices. AMFA is committed to providing what is needed, when it is needed, at the right price, with excellent customer service.  To accomplish this, it has assembled an international staff of experts with over one hundred years of experience in health, pharmacology, logistics, business, and ministry. AMFA works to strengthen local Christian health associations and organizations, thereby promoting cost-effective procurement and inventory of medicines.  It encourages the development of purchasing cooperatives, electronic communication linkages, and peer learning networks among health ministries. In 1997 AMFA South Africa, based in Johannesburg, was established to deal with the specific needs and challenges of providing medicines and medical supplies in Africa. (01/08)

Adonai Missions International (AMI) is an evangelical non-denominational missionary training and sending agency serving primarily in Africa. AMI exists to partner with others who share the same vision in raising laborers for the harvest among many unreached peoples in Central and North Africa through evangelism, discipleship, leadership training, and missionary outreaches. AMI’s ministry teams serve in these capacities as well as provide assistance to national pastors, refugees, orphans, widows, and prisoners in the areas of medicine, educational training scholarship, micro-enterprise development, and more.

AMI’s teams serve in areas where medical facilities are either very poor or non existent. There are, therefore, many opportunities for doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, laboratory scientists, and other health-care professionals to win the lost, train nationals, and provide both humanitarian and health care to thousands through AMI’s Medical Mission Outreach and Relief Assistance. American Leprosy Missions (ALM) is the oldest and largest not-for-profit organization in the U.S. dedicated to the cure and care of people affected by leprosy. It celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2006!

As a Christian mission, ALM assists more than 100 projects in 15 countries, supporting case detection and treatment, physical rehabilitation, community-based development and spiritual ministries to families affected by leprosy. Begun by Christians in 1906, ALM today seeks to eradicate leprosy and its effects by working with project partners around the world to identify, treat and rehabilitate people affected by leprosy.

Though leprosy can be cured, social stigma still robs people affected by leprosy of normal lives. ALM’s integrated, wholistic approach seeks to minister to all aspects of a person’s life that has been compromised by leprosy.

Mission: To serve as a channel of the love of Christ to persons with Hansen’s disease (leprosy) and to those with disabilities, helping them to be healed in body and spirit and to be restored to lives of dignity and usefulness within their communities. (10/04)

In some communities the effectiveness of many health education efforts was negatively impacted by a low literacy rate. As an answer to this problem, Books of Hope (Iincwadi Zethemba) has designed and produced interactive, multilingual speaking books on complex health care issues through the use of the latest sound chip technology and simple to understand picture books that can be seen, read, heard and understood by the reader regardless of their reading ability. The books, which are distributed free, feature a sound track (accessed by pushing buttons along the book's cover that correlate to a picture in the book) read by well-known local personalities in the local language and they take the reader on a step by step guide to wellness whilst encouraging them to build self confidence with a simple action plan. Every aspect of each book is created in collaboration with the sponsor requesting it so that it is relevant and appropriate to its intended use. The back cover of every book in the series lists all the phone numbers and resources for health care support.

Examples of some of the current titles include “Living with HIV and AIDS” (in four languages), “Living Free of TB” and “Caring for your Child Headed Household” (in two languages). There are quite a few books nearing the end of the production process and new ideas are continually being explored. Having successfully established the design and production procedures for creating speaking books, Books of Hope is now ready to expand its reach beyond Africa. Johns Hopkins University Center for Communications programs has recognized and featured Speaking Books on their web site as well as entering into an agreement to jointly market the books. (09/07)

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was founded in 1943 by the U.S. Catholic Bishops. Our mission is to assist the poor and disadvantaged, leveraging the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to alleviate human suffering, promote development of all people, and to foster charity and justice throughout the world. Working through local offices and an extensive network of partners, CRS operates on 5 continents and in over 90 countries. We aid the poor by first providing direct assistance where needed, then encouraging these people to help with their own development. Together, this fosters secure, productive, just communities that enable people to realize their potential.

As the official international relief and development agency of the US Catholic community, CRS is also committed to educating the people of the United States to fulfill their moral responsibilities toward our global brothers and sisters by helping the poor, working to remove the causes of poverty, and promoting social justice. Christian Friends of Korea seeks to bring hope and healing to the people of North Korea in the name of Christ. We have been working in North Korea since 1995, and since that time have delivered over $32 million in aid and assistance. Our primary work is among tuberculosis hospitals and rest homes scattered throughout the Southwestern region of North Korea. We assist the patients and staff of these facilities through the provision of food, TB and general medicine, vitamins, greenhouses, small tractors, hospital renovations, equipment and supplies, blankets, doctor's kits, and many other goods. We also provide support to a provincial level pediatric hospital (a former mission hospital), and other (primarily medical) facilities as requested. We visit regularly, bring donor lists and representatives on each visit, and confirm the arrival and distribution of all our goods. We also send technical teams to help with major renovation/re-equipping of hospital facilities. In all things, we seek to reach out openly in word and deed with the love and grace of Christ among a people who have been largely cut off from the outside world for over 50 years, and who continue to endure hunger, sickness, and great hardship. We are grateful for our partnerships with various organizations, churches, and individuals that help make our shipments and donations possible. (05-08)

The mission of the Christian Mission of Pignon (CMP) is to serve as an open window to and for Christianity, to nurture the spiritual growth of both the Lord’s servants and the people of Haiti, and to practically demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to our Haitian brothers and sisters by assisting the region with long-term, self-sustaining program efforts in the areas of preventive and acute health care, functional literacy and educational opportunities, clean water and essential sanitation facilities, agricultural development and training, community and economic development.

One important principle is: Always teach the Haitian what you are doing so they can continue after you’ve gone.

An outpatient clinic and small hospital provide major and minor surgery, radiology, pharmacy, lab, eye and dental clinics, nutrition training center. The education, Christian mission and community development programs each have a variety of individual and surrounding community projects to nurture the physical and spiritual growth of the people and their community efforts. This exciting 2-year program equips people to minister spiritually and physically across cultural lines as Health Missionaries in developing countries. It is designed for those with no prior health experience and for those with some health training who want to expand their training in the area of community health and primary care.

The first year consists of Missions and Cross-cultural studies. The second year follows the paramedic model, including basic sciences, diagnosis & treatment of common diseases, community health assessment and development. The course is completed with an 8-week internship with a health provider in a developing country.

Most importantly students learn to integrate their faith with health ministry by caring for the whole person; spirit, soul and body. (11/05)
