To selected CCIH members,
Sharon and I have been pondering how a network like ours in CCIH might
play a constructive role in responding to the devastating Haiti earthquake.
Here are five ideas. Please respond to these five points as appropriate
for you. And feel free to send us other information or ideas that may be
helpful.

IMMEDIATE COMMUNICATIONS – Some of our members are desperately trying to
communicate with their colleagues and partners and loved ones in Haiti, but
the communications system has been very badly damaged. If you know any ways
to get messages into or out of Haiti, please reply immediately so we can
share that information with others.
ONGOING COMMUNICATIONS - CCIH has set up a Haiti listserv to facilitate
information sharing and networking among Christians who will be working in or
interested in relief and rehabilitation in Haiti. If you want to join the
listserv, simply send an email (no text needed in subject line or text
box) addressed to
_haiti-join at ccih.org_ (mailto:haiti-join at ccih.org) . Then you will receive
an email requesting you to confirm that you want to join, and you must
reply as instructed. After you join, we would encourage you to use the
listserv to request or share information by sending an email to _Haiti at ccih.org_
(mailto:Haiti at ccih.org)
FUNDRAISING – Many CCIH members will be engaged in the earthquake
response, and will welcome donations toward that purpose. We’ve also been
contacted by people who want to contribute, asking for advice about whom to give
to. We can also be sure there will be disreputable people trying to get
money. If your organization will be involved in Haiti, and would like CCIH to
publicize your openness to receive donations of money or anything else,
please reply listing:
- The name of your organization
- Name and contact information for the cognizant person in your
organization (optional)
- The types of assistance you can handle (money, materials,
volunteers, etc.)
- Information on how to contribute (online, by phone, by mail, etc.)
VOLUNTEERING – Sharon and I are so busy already that there is a limit to
what additional work we can take on to support the Haiti effort. If any of
you as individuals or organizations would be interested in supporting the
effort by working with us and through our network of over 150 organizations
and several hundred individuals to help mobilize a response, please let us
know.
PRAYER – In the flurry of our daily activities, even we Christians
sometimes forget the power available to us through our supplications to God.
