CCIH MEMBERS AND AFFILIATES
Byas Foundation
www.cegepat.qc.ca/fondationbyas
Byas Foundation supports the Hospital of Hope (l'hopital l'Esperance) in
Pilate, Haiti. Reports are that their hospital hasn't been damaged by the
earthquake. The Pilate area is in the north of the island at some distance
from the earthquake epicenter. They are experiencing a heavier than usual
influx of patients, however, and believe that many of them have come from
the capital area where some of the hospitals have been destroyed. The area
and the hospital have already been adversely affected by recent floods and
hurricanes, however, and the Byas Foundation President is hoping to visit to
assess the needs.
Donations: Contact Gérard Laquerre (gerlaq at tlb.sympatico.ca) for information
on how you can help and for updates on the effect that the earthquake is
having on the hospital.
Compassion International
www.compassion.com
All funds raised in response to the Haiti earthquake will be used
immediately to reequip Compassions local support structure and to provide
for the immediate needs of Compassion-assisted children and families. Any
funds raised in excess will be stewarded by Compassion for additional and
future disaster relief efforts.

Samaritans Purse
www.samaritan.org
The first Samaritans Purse cargo plane arrived in Haiti Wednesday January
13 with emergency relief supplies for victims of the massive earthquake. The
initial shipment included shelter material, hygiene kits, and water
purification kits, as well as members of our disaster response team. Several
more shipments were planned. Samaritans Purse teams are working with a
network of pastors to distribute critically-needed relief supplies such as
hygiene kits, plastic for shelters, blankets, and solar flashlights to
beneficiaries located in and around Port-au-Prince. This distribution
network is expected to provide aid to at least 300 families per day. A
community water filter was set up in an area with over 20,000 displaced
people and several more will be set up. Ten tons of food was purchased for
distribution to orphanages. A medical team of 17 has been sent.
Volunteers: The primary need is for trained disaster workers and SP is not
sending volunteers at this time. When the initial emergency relief stage is
over, SP will evaluate the need for volunteers at that time. See
http://www.samaritan.org/index.php/articles/haiti_volunteer_update for more
information.

with their parents, if their parents have survived. We anticipate that
initially we will be working with USAID in the distribution of blankets,
emergency shelters and clean water. We are not at this time soliciting
gift-in-kind donations or recruiting, but please check back for updates. We
are collaborating with other AERDO members.

Brethren Disaster Ministries
http://www.brethren.org
A team from Brethren Disaster Ministries is visiting Brethren partners in
Haiti to assess needs. Plans for a long-term Church of the Brethren response
include support for Haitian Brethren and the most vulnerable in the
Port-au-Prince area. It also may include the involvement of Childrens
Disaster Services in helping children affected by the earthquake learn
resiliency and become comfortable with the new situation in Port-au-Prince.
Meanwhile BDM will continue its ongoing project in Haiti to finish
rebuilding homes damaged by the hurricanes that hit the island in 2008.
Gift of the Heart Hygiene Kits and School Kits are in large demand (see
www.churchworldservice.org/kits). The kits should be sent to the Brethren
Service Center, P.O. Box 188, New Windsor, MD 21776.

Christian Reformed World Relief Committee
www.crwrc.org
By partnering with local churches and community organizations, CRWRC has
empowered Haitian community leaders to no longer see themselves as victims
of poverty, but as image bearers of God who have gifts they can use to serve
their communities. In this new time of crisis, these local partners are now
leading their communities in responding to the most urgent needs. As CRWRC
provides aid, it is also collaborating with other organizations to ensure
that the aid efforts are coordinated and no needs fall through the gaps. At
this time it is unclear whether or not additional volunteers will be needed
for CRWRC's response. Those who are interested in volunteering should
direct their inquiries to Carol Sybenga (csybenga at crcna.org) at

CURE International
CURE International now has several teams of doctors working on the ground in
Port au Prince to provide emergency medical care to victims of the
earthquake. They have been operating non-stop to save lives and stabilize
the most critically injured patients. The CURE team is coordinating the
arrival of desperately needed medical supplies and will continue to bring in
additional surgical teams in the days to come. We also plan to bring
patients to our hospital in the Dominican Republic as soon as it becomes
logistically possible.
Donations to CURE's Haiti Relief Fund will be used to provide emergency
medical assistance to victims of the earthquake, to purchase and transport
medical supplies and to continue medical care for patients in Haiti and the
Dominican Republic.
CURE has a daily blog detailing work in Haiti at
