Dear Haiti Listserv members,

Last week I sent you a message regarding collecting basic data on health
facilities in Haiti in order to facilitate the sharing of information about
capacity ad capabilities of these facilities. I included an instruction
sheet and along and a short survey form.

These documents have been revised and are attached here. Please use these
documents (labeled Feb 22) rather than the ones sent previously. A document
explaining more fully why the information is being collected is also
attached and pasted below.

As before we do hope that you will forward this information on to as many
people as possible so that all health facilities in Haiti will be part of
the database. We also encourage those submitting data to update it as often
as possible so that the actual capacity listed on the database is as true to
reality as possible. This will help those looking for health services in
Haiti to locate facilities that can meet their immediate needs.

I will also be sending, by separate email, a French version of these
documents.

May God continue to bless our efforts to serve those in need in Haiti.

Sharon

Haiti Health Facilities Capacity Inventory

The world’s donor community is responding in record amounts to the needs of
Haiti. One of the great difficulties, however, is understanding the needs
that each health facility has, and how to best match clinical needs with
resources through the country. A central depository has been selected to
facilitate the collection and sharing of information. The information
collected will help direct resources to needs and patients to where there
are adequate resources.

The reconstruction of the health care system in Haiti must first begin with
a better understanding of medical capabilities and services throughout the
country. The health facility assessment will provide crucial information
about health services and help to identify gaps and obstacles. Information
will be integrated into the central repository (accessible to all),
providing near-real time information on available beds, medical services,
and health care resources in all sectors of the country. It is important to
note that all submitted information is owned by the Haitian Ministère de la
Santé Publique et de la Population.

In order to make this near-real time information available to you (and
ultimately to your patients), we ask that you submit your facility
information as soon as possible and keep it up to date as your resources
change. Information in the central repository should allow you and your
colleagues throughout Haiti to make more informed patient care decisions and
should also increase system-wide awareness of resource needs and supply
shortages. Please remember that the information that you receive, it is
only as good as the information that you give.

This data collection effort is being led by an international consortium,
including the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. in
conjunction with other United States governmental agencies, the Pan American
Health Organization and, corporations such as Shoreland, Inc. and Google,
and non-profit organizations such as DataDyne, IMA, WorldHealth, Crisis
Commons, World of Hope, and Global Health Action.

You can submit your information by SMS, email, fax, telephone, MMS, or
through the internet. The attached document (“How to submit and access
Haiti Health Facility Capacity Information”) details the submission
guidelines. In addition, it explains how to view and download this
information to inform “real time” decisions. Full and Reduced Survey
Information Forms are included with this “How to . . .” document.

In addition, as part of the collaborative effort to gather data regarding
the status of health facilities and the availability of medical beds in
Haiti, Datadyne is fielding EpiSurveyor, a tool that allows most cellular
phones that have internet access capability built-in to provide key
information right on the phone. This information will be rapidly integrated
with all other hospital data and available at <http://www.travax.com/m>
www.travax.com/m.

If you have questions about the forms or how to submit data, please contact:
<mailto:haitiaid at shoreland.com> haitiaid at shoreland.com.

Your participation in the Haiti Health Facilities Capacity Inventory is an
important step in meeting the critical health information needs for all
sectors of the country. The assessment data will help determine the "most
pressing" of all the problems/needs first. Use of the findings should
promote better long-term strategic planning by suggesting what material and
human resources are needed to upgrade service delivery within each sector.
