MALARIA: Lesson 4

Anti-Malarial Clinics for Children Age Five and Under .

Supplies needed: From the local market or chemist buy enough pyramethamine (Daraprim) for the estimated number of children who will come to the clinic. You will need an exercise book and pen. Be sure these items are ready before class time.

Tell family members of students (mothers and children) to come to school for this lesson.

After they have gathered, present one of the dramas from Lesson 1 or 2. Then ask questions and discuss what they have seen and heard

Write the names of the children in the exercise book. As the mothers bring the children one by one give each one a (Daraprim) tablet and water to drink so that they can take it right then. Children age 1 through age 5 take one tablet per month. Babies from birth to age 1, divide their tablet into four, they take 1/4 each week.

Instruct the mothers to come each month to receive the (Daraprim) which will prevent the small children from getting malaria. Each time the child comes and receives the medicine, put an X in the exercise book beside his name.

A small fee is charged to cover the cost of the medicine. The money received can be used to buy more (Daraprim) for the next clinic.

A GRAM OF PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN
