CCIH Member in Cameroon Recognized Globally for Leadership on Obesity Prevention
The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS) received major international recognition for its leadership in addressing obesity through its NCD Prevention and Control Program. On September 25, 2025, CBCHS was honored at the 2025 UNIATF Awards ceremony in New York City with a joint award from the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
The award recognizes CBCHS as one of only seven non-state organizations worldwide selected as global champions for pioneering multisectoral action on obesity. The recognition highlights the sustained, system-wide impact of CBCHS’s work across its health facilities, led by NCD Program Coordinator Mr. Takwe Boniface and a dedicated team implementing effective prevention and control strategies.
The awards were presented during the Tenth Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Task Force, held alongside the UN General Assembly’s high-level session on NCDs. In announcing the honorees, WHO noted that these champions demonstrate how diverse approaches can come together to create lasting impact against a crisis that now affects one in eight people globally. The award was received on behalf of CBCHS by Dr. Manga Simon, Deputy Director for Clinical Services (pictured above), now based at the University of Alabama.
Congratulations to CBCHS on this well-deserved global recognition and for modeling how faith-based health systems can drive meaningful change. See more from the WHO.
