“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

CCIH is excited to hold an in-person meeting May 21-23, 2024 at Brackenhurst Conference Centre in Limuru, Kenya. Our theme is Mental Health Matters: Speaking Up for Mental Health in Christian Communities. The meeting will be co-hosted by the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) and SIL, Anglo-Lusophone Africa.

Join health program staff, community health workers, health practitioners, Christian health association leaders, and staff, church and lay leaders, psychologists and psychiatrists, and mental health practitioners to discuss and learn how to support programming for mental health. We will explore how to include mental health in facility and community health services, dive into the particulars around perinatal mental health, and how to support caregivers, your staff, and self-care.

We seek participants from East Africa, including Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda, who bring information, ideas, and views that are insightful, practical, and will stimulate discussion.

Are you interested in sponsoring the meeting and connecting with East African Christian health leaders? Learn more about Sponsorship here.

Are there scholarships available?

There were a limited number of $250 USD scholarships to support those who need financial support from East African countries for Full Board registration. Applications closed on January 31, 2024.

Do I need a visa and what is an eTA?

  • You do not need a visa to travel to Kenya. On December 12, 2023, Kenyan President William Ruto announced that Kenya will be a visa-free country beginning in January 2024.
  • In lieu of a visa, all non-East African residents must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) from the Kenya Electronic System for Travel Authorization (eTA) prior to entry. The eTA applications are usually processed within 3 days, but we recommend applying at least 2 weeks prior to travel. The eTA is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.
  • Who must obtain the eTA? The eTA is mandatory for all foreign visitors, except passport holders from the following East African countries are exempt and do not need to apply for an eTA: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
  • What information is required to apply for an eTA?
    • Valid passport
    • Recent passport picture OR similar headshot photo
    • Contact details (home address, telephone, email)
    • Travel information and flight itinerary (arrival flight number, dates of flights. You may consider uploading a screenshot of your flight itinerary for convenience.)
    • Proof of booking for the hotel you will be staying at (CCIH will prepare and send this for those who are staying at Brackenhurst and need proof of lodging. If you are staying at additional hotels or other lodging you will have to request this information from the other lodging source.)
    • Credit/Debit card information for payment
  • How much does the eTA cost? The eTA fee is USD 32.50 per traveler, plus bank and processing fees (approximately $34.95 USD).
  • CCIH and our co-host, the Christian Health Association of Kenya, will provide all registrants with an invitation letter as a supporting document after your registration is confirmed.

When do I need to arrive and leave?

  • The Regional Meeting begins Tuesday, May 21 at 8:30 am EAT. The sessions will conclude approximately at 4:15 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and conclude Thursday afternoon after lunch (approximately 2:00 pm EAT).
  • Plan to arrive the day before if you are registered for Full Board. Check-in for accommodation at Brackenhurst begins at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 20. Dinner and lodging for Monday, May 20 are included in your Full Board registration. (If you need additional nights, contact Brackenhurst Conference Centre)
  • If you are not staying at Brackenhurst, allow enough time for morning traffic to arrive before 8:30 am EAT each morning.

Banking

  • No ATMs are available on the Brackenhurst campus, but major credit cards are accepted onsite. The gift shop can exchange US dollars for Kenyan shillings and can facilitate withdrawals and payments through MPesa.
  • Currency exchange services are available at the airport.
  • Sim/eSim cards can be purchased from Safaricom at the airport.

Airport Transfer

  • How do I get to the Brackenhurst Conference Centre? If you indicated you need assistance with airport transfers in your registration, CCIH will coordinate with Acts Africa to arrange round-trip transportation. Please send your travel itinerary to events (at) ccih.org. The cost is $50 per person each way but can be paid on-site.
  • How do I get back to the airport/Nairobi at the conclusion of the Regional Meeting? CCIH will work with Acts Africa to provide transportation back to the airport or to a destination in central Nairobi. Cost is $50 per person. Arrangements with CCIH must be made prior to the meeting.
